                 BAHAMAS ESCAPE

DAY 3 NASSAU

7/2/2021

We were late with our post of our July 1 writeup and if you missed it you can find it right below today's post.

Thank you Gill for your comments.  Hotel is great and we are glad you found the information we provided about Verifly to be helpful.

Yesterday, we forgot to mention we received a letter saying the second day of the cruise we would not stop at Bimini as planned.  This was not only a stop but some people planned to sail Bimini round trip and would not be able to board that day.  They were notified a day earlier and Crystal said they could join the ship one day earlier in Nassau.  The reason for this is on Wednesday Crystal was informed by the authorities of The Bahamas that there is an outbreak of COVID-19 on Bimini and after careful thought they decided for the overall health of everyone not to risk a stop there along with embarkation.  Our heart goes out to all those guests who planned to embark in Bimini.  Crystal said they would attempt to help them with travel to get to the Nassau port and if that was not possible a future cruise would be an option.

We enjoyed a nice dinner last evening from room service and had dinner out on the terrace.  Weather was delightful with a nice breeze and we have beautiful views of water and a portion of the hotel property.

Keith had Grouper accompanied by small potatoes and beans.  It was interesting how it arrived.  They placed the entree in a plastic bag and it was on the plate and underneath the cover.  When Keith first looked he thought it looked odd but kudos to the restaurant staff.  After having another terrific spinach salad with walnuts (the spinach quality is far better than we see at home) he opened the plastic and realized right away that it kept the entree fairly hot and when he poured the contents onto the plate it looked perfect as if that was the way it came from the start.

Anne Marie enjoyed a delicious pasta with sauce.   We made good choices.

After a short break we sat outside again with some grapes and cheese and wine.  The cheese and grapes were in our room when we arrived the first day.  About halfway through, it was time to go inside because a seagull had its eye on the food and swarmed two times and was getting ready to return for a third time.  We guess it didn't like salads or the entrees since we didn't see it then.

This reminded us of other encounters with wildlife and food.  One time we were in the Mediterranean and walking around when we saw a little boy with ice cream cone in his hand with his parents and a large bird swarmed down and wrestled the ice cream cone out of his hand.  The boy was startled but started to cry out that his ice-cream was taken.

Another time when we were on Safari in Pindha, South Africa we would have lunches with the others on the overland tour outside at the lodge.  Well, several times we had unexpected visitors from monkeys.  If you turned your head and didn't look at your plate, a monkey was likely going to pay a quick visit for food.
After breakfast Keith went on a walk.  A friend had mentioned there were Flamingos on the hotel property so Keith went to see them.  Once again another member of the hotel team demonstrated why we think the service at the hotel is professional and personable with people going the extra mile.  As Keith was making his way to the doors to go outside, one of the two doormen outside the hotel saw him and started to run to the door so he could open the door before Keith got there.  Keith asked him where the Flamingos are.  Instead of him giving Keith directions he turned to the other doorman to say he would walk Keith over there.  He grabbed an umbrella and off they went.  We had looked at the weather forecast and while it called for rain it showed not for a few hours. Well, like many forecasts it was wrong.  The doorman gave Keith the umbrella and a couple of minutes later it started to rain.  Keith felt bad he hadn't taken an umbrella for himself.  They walked past the pool, down to the beach which we both walked yesterday and made a couple of turns and there were the Flamingos.  The doorman even held the umbrella over Keith so he could take some photos.  They were beautiful.

The doorman mentioned to Keith the Rosewood Hotel has been opened three years and the other two hotels about five years.

After walking back together to the hotel lobby Keith decided to walk inside the hotel to the other two hotels as we both did yesterday.  The complex is very well laid out and easy to get around with all of the signage.  It is nice to get to many of the restaurants and to the hotels and most stores without going outside.
Before lunch we both walked outside and Keith showed Anne Marie where the Flamingos were.  On the return it began to rain.
A few photos before we saw the Flamingos.
Our original plan was to have all three of today's meals in our room.  However, we decided to return to Costa Restaurant for lunch given it has the outdoor seating and we enjoyed the food.   We had another warm and friendly and professional server.  Food was great.  We both had salads.  Keith's was accompanied by fish and Anne Marie's by Chicken.  Only got a photo of Keith's.  Like yesterday, the cheque comes in a box and inside the box hand wet wipes, some candy and the cheque.
No rain while we were eating so after photo taken waiter opened other shudders.

As we were leaving it began to rain.  We each came prepared with umbrellas and fittingly Anne Marie brought an umbrella Keith got for her from Crystal Cruises on-line store.
This afternoon included more walks and packing.

Tomorrow is embarkation day.

Cheers,

Anne Marie & Keith

Thank you for sharing your experiences leading to this much anticipated cruise! We too are looking forward to the return of cruising and joining Crystal Serenity later today. While we were certainly looking forward to Bimini, we are just as happy for the extra sea days!
