Barcelona Day 2

DAY 2 Barcelona

Let us begin correcting an error. The capital of Spain is Madrid and not Barcelona.  Barcelona is the capital of Catalonia.

Shortly after we posted we took a nice walk of about one hour and took in the views all around us. The weather was a delight. 

Afterwards we had dinner outdoors at a restaurant called Vivo Tapes Restaurant where we enjoyed Sea Bass, Grilled Vegetables and a Slice Bake Potato. This was plenty for us and the food was very tasty and the service was efficient and friendly. We had made reservations from home and the Hotel Concierge called ahead to ensure we would have outdoor seating.

We greatly enjoy cities and have always enjoy walking around Barcelona. We do have a tour planned for Saturday.

We were tired and as we were waiting for the cheque at the restaurant we felt that we needed tooth picks from letting our eyes close. 

Back at the hotel we enjoyed a good sleep trying to catch up on the hours we missed on the airplane.

The hotel has several options for breakfast including a breakfast buffet, outdoor breakfast on the top of the hotel or in room dining. We chose the latter.

We are very open about Anne Marie having a Blood Cancer, so we often opt for our room to have breakfast. Likewise, because of this we prefer having lunch and/or dinner outdoors 

We went on two nice walks. On the first walk our destination was a grocery store. Browsing local stores provides an opportunity to see what is available and how it might differ from our markets at home. The fruit and vegetables always look so much better and taste much better in the Mediterranean than back home. This was the case at this grocery store.

On our second walk we headed towards Las Ramblas to visit the famous Boqueria Market. Our first visit to this market was in 1998 and since that time we have visited this historic market many times. We did observe how it has changed since that last visit. There are many places selling prepared meals and other items more tourist oriented and less fruit, vegetable, poultry and meat markets. It is still very interesting to walk around and everything looks fresh.

The weather continued to be terrific and many tourists were out and about. Another observation is that there are many more smokers than we see back in the States. It is a vibrant city which we enjoy. 

We will walk again this afternoon and we have dinner reservations at an Italian restaurant. Tomorrow night we will have Spanish food. We will post all about this tomorrow.
