We received an invite from the Terry Maalen the wife of Captain Reidulf Maaalen to attend a ceremony in his memory and commending his ashes to sea. Keith attended the ceremony and spoke with Terry and her daughter before the ceremony and again spoke with Terry at its conclusion. It was very touching. She welcomed everyone, read a poem that she wrote, their daughter spoke. Cruise Director Raphael and a member of the Showband played taps. Senior Officers including Captain Birger, Vice Captain, HD Director Scott Peterson and some members of the crew were in attendance. It was a wonderful ceremony for a wonderful Captain and family man. In terms of Crystal Captain Maalen was Captain of all three ships. He was very well respected and liked by crew and guests. May he rest in peace and may his memory be a blessing. This morning, we arrived to Grand Cayman which we have visited many times starting in the 1990’s and continuing to several voyages on Crystal on Holiday sailings or ones before the start of the World Cruise.
This is the final port-of-call on the New Year's Cruise before we arrived back to Port Everglades on January 7. Including Serenity six ships were anchored off Grand Cayman. Grand Cayman is the largest of the three Cayman’s and encompasses about 75% of the overall land mass of the Cayman’s. Some of the highlights include Stingray City, Cayman Crystal Caves, 7-mile beach, and Cayman Turtle Centre and the downtown area. In years past we took our family to Stingray City, 7-Mile beach, a drive around most of the island and numerous visits to the downtown area. We continue to enjoy an amazing time sailing Crystal Serenity. This has been a wonderful cruise. As we've said from the start the destination for us has been Crystal Serenity. We are enjoying the rest of the day on-board Serenity, and we have tomorrow to look forward to as well. Cheers Cheers, Anne Marie & Keith
