HEY THERE, WELCOME TO THE LAND OF FIRE AND ICE, AKA REYKJAVIK, ICELAND!Thank you Patricia. We've been trying to have some fun with the write-ups. Norm you are so right. It truly lessens the stress and breaks up the flight. We touched down in Reykjavik this morning, buzzing with excitement after our journey from Chicago O'Hare to Keflavik International Airport! The flight was just under six hours, and we're thrilled to be here! Service was great. We had a flight attendant who was an absolute gem. Her first name was a breeze for us to remember because, surprise surprise, it's the same as our daughter's! Talk about a cosmic coincidence! The food, however left us wondering if we accidentally ordered "mystery surprise" instead of dinner. LOL. We hired a concierge service that swooped in like superheroes as we exited the aircraft, whisking us through immigration faster than you can say "passport, please!" After grabbing our checked luggage and making a pit stop for some duty-free wine (because who doesn't need a souvenir from the airport?), our trusty escort zoomed us through customs and handed us off to our driver, who chauffeured us to downtown Reykjavik in a breezy fifty minutes. This year, we're setting sail for the Black Pearl for the very first time! It's an apartment that thinks it's a hotel. Back in 2021 and 2024, we dropped anchor at a different spot with similar vibes. Both places serve up a delightful breakfast right delivered to your room, and the apartments makes it a breeze to haul in lunch and dinner for a cozy feast. With 60 days of munching ahead on Serenity and our post-Covid mission to dodge dining out, this apartment setup is our treasure map to culinary bliss! The Apartment Hotel is so fancy it might just ask you to call it "Your Majesty." It boasts its own private elevator, perfect for pretending you're a secret agent on a mission. Inside, you'll find a full kitchen ready for your culinary experiments, two bedrooms for your beauty sleep, a living area for your lounging needs, an enormous dining table that's practically begging for a feast, and a balcony where you can practice your royal wave. After getting settled, we set off on our grand quest for groceries. Believe it or not, within a twelve-minute stroll, we stumbled upon not one, not two, but a trio of grocery stores! It's like they were multiplying just to impress us. We’ve been playing weather detective in Reykjavik for the past few weeks. We’re old hands at this time of year after our 2021 escapade. Last year, we visited in September, which was a bit nippy. In the past, we’ve popped by in August and September. July and August are the "warmest" months, but let's just say warm is a matter of opinion. Highs might hit the high 40s or low to high 50s. These months love to keep you guessing with rain. Rain could mean a few drops, a gentle drizzle, or maybe a tad more. The weather menu includes cloudy, partly cloudy, sunny, rainy, dry, windy, barely windy, or a wild mix of all of the above in one day. As they say, welcome to Reykjavik, where the weather has multiple personalities!
Today we lucked out. Gorgeous weather and some photos from our walk this afternoon. Cheers, Anne Marie & Keith
