Reykjavik, Iceland

We were glad that we stayed over in Chicago rather than doing two flights in one day. There are so many unknowns these days such as what happens if your first flight is cancelled or significantly delayed.  After checking out of the hotel, we walked about 10 minutes to check in for our flight which is a direct flight from Chicago O'Hare to Reykjavik, Iceland.

We checked in early to enjoy the airport club lounge.  We flew United Airlines.  When we lived in Washington, DC and the Bay Area United was our go to airline for business and pleasure but their presence where we lived before moving to our present home and where we live now is relatively small.  

We left the gate only a few minutes late and arrived to Reykjavik a few minutes early. Flight was relatively smooth other than a few bumps here and there to remind us that we were in the air.  

Keith arranged for a service to meet us at the gate and that sped the process through immigrations, collecting luggage, to customs where we met the driver for the private vehicle that Gabby arranged for us.

It was raining as we drove into the city which is about a 45 minute drive.  The hotel we have has residences in several different locations all with a couple of blocks from one another.  We are staying in the same building we had in 2021 which is laid out like a two bedroom/ two bath apartment. Each day we are provided with a basket of goodies and in the morning a freshly baked bread from a renowned bakery arrives in a bag and is placed on the outside door handle.  It includes a refrigerators, stove top, microwave and dishwasher. Some units have a washer and dryer but we don't need this and we prefer the layout we have over that units layout.

Keith had one little mishap but thankfully he avoided a major fall. Since it was raining, we had the driver drop off Keith to register.  He waited so he could drive us one block to where we would stay.  While Keith was inside he had to park across the street. When Keith noticed where he was he ran across the street as there were cars he spotted from a distance. He looked straight at our car and not down and started to trip off a curb and somehow kept his composure and footing together to avoid what might have been a very bad fall.  This is why they call this kind of thing when you fall an "accident".  

We placed our luggage in the room we went to a nearby food store to pick up some items. It was raining but we were prepared for the rain wearing our waterproof rain jackets.  After returning from the store  Keith went out to a different store to pick up a few other items including bottled water while Anne Marie got us settled in the room.

Some photos from today.  Keith went out for a while and revisited some place we went to in 2021. There were periods of rain but after all this is Iceland.  

First day is always a bit hectic with flying but we are very happy to return to Reykjavik, Iceland.
