DAY 26 DAY 15 SERENITY

1/21/2020

DAY TWO - ON THE ROAD TO LOS ANGELES
Last evening was the second Black Tie Optional  evening of the cruise.   For those who have not sailed Crystal option means you  can wear formal attire (tuxedo/suit for gents/gown, tea length glitzy  dress or elegant pant suit for ladies) or a sports jacket/dress pants/collared shirt (with our without tie) for gents and a nice dress, pant suit, skirt and top for the ladies.  These are the menus from Waterside.

After Crystal Serenity came out of dry dock  late 2018 several physical changes were made along with other changes.   This included going from  fixed dining to open seating in the dining  venue which used to be the Crystal Dining Room and is now Waterside.   Waterside like the Crystal Dining Room is very popular on the BTO nights.  With open dining this could result in capacity constraints beginning at 6:30 PM until 8:00 PM.  As a result on cruises with one or two BTO nights or on the first and last nights of cruises with more then two BTO nights, the Stardust Lounge is considered to a Supper Club.  Reservations are required.  There is one seating which begins at 6:30 PM.   It holds slightly over 100 guests and this is sufficient to reduce demand from Waterside.  The tables are all four person tables.  If you go with another couple as we did last night you can be seated together.  If you are going solo or as a couple they will seat you with other guests.

We went for the first and only time during the 2018 Holiday Cruise and had a wonderful evening.   We made plans ahead of time to go with dear friends  Bob and Glo who we have known since  2008 and have sailed with on numerous cruises.

The menu is an abbreviated menu from Waterside.  There are a couple of appetizer and entree choices.  The tables are beautifully set.

The Supper Club on Crystal Serenity brings  to life those days when people went for Supper and  enjoyed  a show which included live music and dancing.

Each table sits four guests.  Overall table  capacity allows for a total of 116 to attend.   The tables look beautiful between the place settings, glassware and table cloths.  The menu includes a  choice of appetizers, entrees and dessert.  Each  guest is  given a flute of champagne as they arrive and wine, mixed drinks and various  beverages are served by the waitstaff and members of the bar team.   It represents  a true  team effort  by  the Food &  Beverage Department.  We had a wonderful time.

This is the menu.

After a wonderful time at the Supper Club the good news is we set the clocks back on hour last night to get on the next time zone for Los Angeles California.

Today marks the  last full day of this first leg of World Cruise 2020.

It was a  great sea day with lots to do and the program was full of activities  day and night.

Daytime lectures included:

Bob Ray  spoke about Tommy James who sold 100 million records.  He was followed by Dick Morgan who spoke about the United State Invasion of Panama in 1989.  The final talk was given by special interest  lecturer Scott Bornstein who spoke about the six steps to never forget a name or face again.  We wanted to note the day before when he spoke about memory at the Hollywood Theatre it was standing room only.   Now what is his name again.  Just kidding.

We took today to watch his lecture from yesterday and it is very good with some solid  techniques to remember items.

Before and after Breakfast  Keith exercised.  This included exercising by himself at the  Fitness Center  and taking an indoor cycling  class following breakfast.  Anne Marie had her hair done at the salon for the first time of this cruise.  She had the same hair stylist as Keith did.

Thanks to technology  we  were able to have a video call with our son Eric to wish him a  very Happy Birthday.

During the course of the day Keith played Paddle Tennis two different times, Anne Marie walked, and we  had lunch at Marketplace which offers a wife  range of cuisine which you serve self service from food stations.

While we  were  playing Paddle  Tennis Captain Birger made an announcement from the bridge that we  would shortly be  seeing the  USS Nimitz super carrier.   They  were doing an exercise.  As  we got  closer  Captain Birger spoke again and described the three fighter jets that were in the air along with a helicopter.  We stopped play to view the  carrier.  Anne Marie took the following two photos from our verandah while Keith viewed the Nimitz from the top deck of the ship outside the Paddle Tennis area.
