DAY 37 DAY 26 SERENITY

WELCOME TO BORA BORA

We  began  the evening attending the World Games Closing  Ceremony held at the Crystal Plaza.

Keith received  a Silver  Medal  for placing second in  mixed double Paddle Tennis with fellow guest Heather.

The close included  a summary of the medals awarded to each country  which the  guests were playing for.  The USA did have  the most medals. 

These are  the Waterside dinner  menus from last evening.

We enjoyed dinner  at Prego with  friend and World Cruise Hostess  Stacey Huston.

Marco was our Waiter and Sommelier Lubo poured the wine. 

Many  thanks to Marco, Lubo, Head Waiter Mornie and Specialty  Restaurant  Maitre d' Mario and to Chef Alfred  and the rest of the galley team  for making this an amazing dining  experience.  

The food was delicious.

We began with a crab salad in a Cannoli followed  by Caesar salad (sorry about blurred photo).

The entree was the addition for the evening  which was  Sea Bass over  Angel Hair Pasta.  In addition a  side order of Grilled Vegetables.

The entertainment featured the production show The Tourist.

We had no trouble falling asleep.  As we have mentioned the gentle rocking of the ship makes it easy to fall asleep.

We began our day as you  have come to know.  This  included  a workout for Keith at the Fitness Center  followed by breakfast in our room.

It is hard to believe this is our fourth visit to this Island.  In the past we  have done excursions  which is the way  to see the island as there is not much by the tender drop off.  Given  we  have done  the  excursions  which interested us   we  just went over to the island on the Tender and didn't  stay very  long.

Bora Bora is  a  major  tourist  destination known for  its beautiful resorts and its natural beauty.  It  has  beautiful beaches and a nice place for those who enjoy snorkeling  and getting  away from it  all.   During World War II, the United States constructed a major road around the island  and used the Island as a landing strip and to keep supplies including fuel for the war.  No combat took place on the island.

Major Highlights Include:

Matira Beach which is the largest public assess beach in  Bora  Bora.

Lagoonarium which is an outdoor aquarium or fish park.  You can also swim in the lagoon.

Coastal Defense  Guns  which was established a few weeks after the attack on Pearl Harbor.

Musee de la Marine which is a small museum housing a collection of  historical boats and other items  related to maritime history.

Bora  Bora Reef which surrounds this island and  is  a colorful, vibrant reef.

The weather forecast from yesterday was correct as it called for rain.  Some of the excursions were cancelled such as the Catamaran.  

We do have an overnight  as we are here for two days so  Anne Marie decided to stay on the ship and Keith went down to the tender.    Before going downstairs he checked on our verandah and it was a light drizzle. He put on a rain coat and waited about ten minutes for the tender.  After his card was swiped he looked up and walked outside and it was raining very hard.  He decided it was coming down too  hard and  even with a rain coat he would have been drenched so he turned around.

We will hope the weather  is better tomorrow.

We are posting early today.

Our plans for  this afternoon are lunch and  walking inside the ship and  a  visit to the Fitness Center.  We will likely get together with fellow guests.

This evening  we are going to the Vintage Room for dinner.
